The Maltese Kitchen: The Uncomplicated Kitchen

Uncomplicated and traditional food of Malta
Besides friendly people, gorgeous vistas, and perfect weather, a trip to Malta will be filled with delicious local cuisine. The traditional Maltese diet is uncomplicated, starting with basic ingredients like chicken rabbit and other fresh meats, as well as freshly-caught fish, fresh vegetables and fruits, and good olive oil. It draws from both its heritage (English colony) and its close proximity to Sicily for inspiration as well. You will find no lack of English or Italian dishes on the average Maltese menu, including western favorites like burgers, fries, pizza and pastas. Be sure to sample some traditional Maltese dishes whiles you are there. The Lampuki Pie (fish pie) is always fresh and delicious. Another favorite is hearty widow's soup, which is accompanied by a small round of Gbejniet ( freshly made sheep or goat's cheese), and Bigilla, a thick pate’ made from broad beans with fresh garlic.
