Malta has been part of the Eurovision
song contest for over 30 times and that is a record worth celebrating. The
music contest debuted in the year 1971, though the country has never won the
contest but came close four times, when its representative came second twice
and also came third twice. In 1975, Malta withdrew from the competition for
more than 15 years and came back in 1991and from 1991 till date, the country
had an eight consecutive top 10 placings. Malta had featured in 24 of the 30.
In the year 2013, Malta’s representative- Gaia Gauchi became the first Maltese
to win the competition after several attempts, thus putting the country on the
list of record winners of the competition.
