Malta has the highest rents of 12 countries in Southern Europe, closely followed by Italy and Spain, according to recent data from the study site Numbeo.
But it is the rents that are high. Cost of living plus the rent, however, say otherwise. Then Italy is more expensive than Malta. The explanation for this is probably high food prices and high restaurant prices in Italy.
Macedonia is ranked as the twelfth and cheapest country, with the lowest rents in Southern Europe.
